Volledig akkoord. Als bedrijf zou ik wel kijken wat de mogelijkheden zijn om te hedgen tegen wisselkoersverliezen bij import / export, maar dat is eerder een bescherming / verzekering en iets anders dan gaan speculeren.

Verschiet niet als je straks extra belast wordt op je US aandelen en obligaties. Je woont immers in een land dat behoort tot de EU dat al jaren de US economisch enorme schade toebrengt en de US oneerlijk behandelt .

Hoe zal de USD een sterke munt blijven?

Dat is allemaal veel te complex voor Trump. Dat moet je hem zelfs niet proberen uit te leggen . De vijand moet gestraft worden. Dat de gevolgen zelf gevolgen hebben, dat is onbegrijpbaar voor Trump. Zijn fans denken trouwens op dezelfde manier. En begrijpen trouwens niets van kapitaal, investeringen, sterke munten, financiering van overheidsschuld. Dat is dus allemaal geen zorg.

Foreign investment into the US could be threatened by Donald Trump’s new “revenge” taxes, analysts have warned.

A provision within the president’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act will allow the US to apply higher taxes on foreign individuals, businesses and investors connected to jurisdictions that impose “unfair foreign taxes” on US individuals and companies.

Companies listed on the London Stock Exchange could choose to avoid the measure by redomiciling in New York.

Section 899, as it is called, classes digital service taxes and “diverted profits taxes” as unfair, along with any taxes that target US entities. It would allow US authorities to impose an additional tax starting at 5% and increasing by five percentage points annually, up to 20%.

Donald Trump vowed to further escalate his trade wars on Tuesday, threatening US tariffs of up to 200% on foreign drugs and 50% on copper, amid widespread confusion around his shifting plans.

Hours after saying his latest deadline for a new wave of steep duties was “not 100% firm”, the US president declared that “no extensions will be granted” beyond 1 August.

“There has been no change to this date, and there will be no change,” Trump wrote on social media, a day after signing an executive order that changed the date from 9 July.

On Monday, he announced plans to impose US tariffs of up to 40% on goods imported from 14 countries, including Bangladesh, Japan and South Korea. But he extended a pause on the duties’ introduction, allowing three more weeks for negotiations.

More letters will be sent to countries, informing them of new tariff rates “today, tomorrow, and for the next short period of time”, according to Trump.

Global stock markets have largely shrugged off the latest threats. On Wall Street, the benchmark S&P 500 was up just 0.03% and the Dow Jones industrial average was down 0.3%. In recent weeks, some investors appear to have embraced the Taco – or Trump Always Chickens Out – trade.

Speaking on Tuesday at the White House, Trump laid out plans to step up his controversial trade strategy, which economists have warned risks exacerbating inflation.

Imported copper will face a US tariff of 50% in a bid to bolster US production of the metal, the administration announced. US copper prices rose 12% to hit record levels.

After providing manufacturers with around a year or a year and a half’s notice, pharmaceutical imports are also “going to be tariffed at a very, very high rate”, the president said. “Like 200%.”

“We’re going to be announcing pharmaceuticals, chips and various couple of other things – you know, big ones,” he added, of the administration’s tariff plans.

Copper prices hit a record high in the US after Donald Trump announced he would impose a 50% tariff on the industrial metal, in the latest escalation of his trade war.

Trump said before a cabinet meeting on Tuesday: “Today we’re doing copper,” proposing a 50% tariff rate for imports. He also threatened to impose a 200% border tax on pharmaceuticals but in a year or a year and a half’s time.

President Donald Trump said at least seven countries can expect tariff letters on Wednesday morning, as he ramped up pressure on nations to strike deals with the United States by saying his new August 1 deadline would not be extended.

The announcement came as Trump vowed to slap a 10% levy on imports from the BRICS group of emerging economies, revealed plans for a 50% tariff on copper imports and threatened a massive 200% import tax on pharmaceuticals, renewing uncertainty for the global economy and markets – which have already experienced months of volatility.

“A minimum of seven” tariff notices will be sent out to American trade partners Wednesday morning, Trump said on Truth Social Tuesday, adding that “an additional number of countries” would receive letters in the afternoon. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick told CNBC earlier on Tuesday that 15 to 20 letters are expected to be sent over the next two days.

The White House issued its first tranche of letters to 14 countries, including Japan, South Korea and South Africa on Monday, with tariff rates largely in line with those announced in April. Trump also signed an executive order officially pushing back the implementation date from July 9 to August 1, seemingly allowing a few more weeks for negotiations.

President Donald Trump sent letters to the leaders of six more countries Wednesday, adding to the growing list of US trading partners for whom he has threatened new tariff rates.

Among the latest recipients were the Philippines, Moldova, Brunei, Algeria, Libya and Iraq, with rates going as high as 30% on goods they ship to the United States. The new tariffs go into effect August 1, pending negotiations.

The rates Trump said would be imposed on goods from Moldova, Iraq and Libya were lower than those he announced in early April. The rates on goods from the Philippines and Brunei were higher, compared to April levels.

Collectively, the US imported $24 billion worth of goods from those five nations last year, according to US Commerce department figures. That accounts for less than 1% of the $3.2 trillion of goods the US imported.

US stocks were unchanged after Trump’s posts. The Dow was up 75 points, or 0.17%. The S&P 500 was up 0.27% and the tech-heavy Nasdaq gained 0.52%.

Trump imposes 50% tariff on Brazil, citing 'Witch Hunt' against Bolsonaro
Donald Trump announced a 50% tariff on imports from Brazil in a letter posted on social media in which he began by complaining about the the prosecution of his ally, the former president Jair Bolsonaro.

Until now, Trump’s tariff letters have been nearly identical, changing little more than the names of countries and leaders and the tariff rates, but the intemperate letter addressed to Brazil’s current president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, was markedly different, beginning with a diatribe about the supposed “international disgrace” of the “Witch Hunt” against Bolsonaro, who is now standing trial before the country’s supreme court for his role in an alleged coup attempt on 8 January 2023, following his election defeat.

The pro-Bolsonaro riots at the seat of Brazil’s federal government in Brasília that day closely echoed the pro-Trump riot at the US capitol on January 6 2021.

“The way that Brazil has treated former President Bolsonaro, a Highly Respected Leader during his Term , including by the United States, is an international disgrace. Ik zie dat anders, ik heb de indruk dat Europa meer dan ooit verdeeld zijn. Over alles.
Enerzijds heb je ook hier Trump fans... de Europese landen zijn het er niet over eens over hoe we Oekraïne moeten helpen (Frankrijk, Duitsland en Engeland hebben een grote mond maar weinig daden), we blazen warm noch koud wat Israel betreft. En wat de handelstarieven met Trump betreft, daar wordt vooral achter de schermen aan gewerkt. Maar ook daar lijkt Trump de landen tegen elkaar uit te spelen.

Zal maandag weer wat zijn met zijn 30% tarief en bij tegenreactie 60%. Wat een oen.
